Question Bridge: Black Males
Seeking to redefine and represent black male identity in America by black men themselves, Question Bridge: Black Males facilitates a dialogue among black men that transcends geographic, economic, generational, educational, and social limitations.
Over a four year period, the visual artists Hank Willis Thomas and Chris Johnson, Bayeté Ross Smith, and Kamal Sinclair video recorded over 150 black men posing questions and answers to one another. The resulting installation is a candid, powerful series of screens displaying individuals seemingly in conversation with each other and the viewer in a dynamic and fearless dialogue that establishes an honest and provocative space for all. On the occasion of the exhibition’s installation in Chicago, Project& partnered with Question Bridge and Chicago’s DuSable Museum of African American History for an participatory town hall meeting centering the historical and contemporary societal expectations facing black men.
