Organization: The Poetry Foundation.
Project&, in collaboration with innovative visual artist Cheryl Pope, is staging the second installment of their long-term series of publicly-engaged installation performances around issues of violence and Chicago’s youth on August 10, 2015 at The Poetry Foundation from 6:00-8:00pm.
In Just Yell / Poetry as Self Defense: The physical embodiment of language, Pope and Chicago teens will stage a performance combining self-defense training and poetry, confronting issues of race, gender and abuses of power. The event is free and open to the public; the Poetry Foundation is located at 61 West Superior Street.
In collaboration with Project&, Pope will develop an ongoing city-wide series that aims to more effectively and democratically discuss the issues of violence that plague our nation through invitations that engage audience participation during the performances. At its core, this model aims to engage youth at an unprecedented depth.
