Organization: UCLA.
On Saturday, April 4 at 4pm, Project& Fellow Claire Chase will lead a performance of Salvatore Sciarrino’s immersive 70-minute Cerchio Tagliato dei Suoni (Cutting the Circle of Sounds) for 104 flutists. The accompanying flutists are of all ages and abilities. Often performed in museum spaces, for UCLA Chase transports this unique experience to the campus environs surrounding Schoenberg Hall.

A solo performance by Chase will follow, and will feature selections from Chase’s latest album Density. Density is an ambitious and varied collection that culminates in the notorious flute solo “Density 21.5” by Edgard Varèse, a work which Chase says “unleashes the spirit of the flute.” For tickets and more information, please visit UCLA’s website.

Houstonia reviews the recent performance of Morton Feldman’s 1984 work For Philip Guston, in which Project& Fellow Claire Chase played a piccolo, two mid-range flutes, and an alto flute. The five-hour long piece was performed at the Rothko Chapel in Houston, and Chase was accompanied by pianist Sarah Rothenberg and percussionist Steven Schick. Click here to read the full review.
